Speed is a cornerstone of both user experience and search rankings. A slow page makes visitors leave before they ever see your content.
Three metrics, one goal
LCP measures how quickly the largest content loads, INP how fast the page responds to interactions, and CLS the layout shifts that happen while loading.
- Serve images as WebP/AVIF at the right size
- Inline critical CSS and remove unused code
- Defer third-party scripts
- Give image and ad slots fixed dimensions
Measure, improve, monitor
Lab tests are a good start, but real-user data shows the real picture. Keep an eye on Search Console reports and real-user monitoring tools.
Every 100 milliseconds of delay takes something away from your conversion rate.
Define performance as a requirement at the start of the project, not the end. That way speed becomes a natural feature of the product rather than a patch added later.
